Applicants for a Certificate of Registration : Document Requirement Change
The Council of the College of Early Childhood Educators (the College), at its meeting on December 1, 2010 passed a resolution which will change the documentation requirements for all individuals applying to the College for a Certificate of Registration on or after February 14, 2011.
The text below, outlines the documentation that will be required of all new applicants, including those applicants who hold a Letter of Equivalency or Recognition of Equivalency certificate from the Association of Early Childhood Educators Ontario, who apply on or after February 14, 2011.
1. Effective February 14, 2011, the following registration practices will be implemented by the College:
a) an applicant who is required to satisfy the requirements set out in paragraph 1 of section 7 of the registration regulation must provide an original transcript issued by the educational institution at which the applicant obtained his or her academic credential, bearing the institution's seal and signature of the registrar or equivalent official;
b) the transcript described in subparagraph (a) must be sent directly from the educational institution to the College;
c) an applicant whose academic credentials have been assessed by a third party assessment agency, acceptable to the College, is deemed to have satisfied the requirements described in subparagraphs (a) and (b), provided that the College has received the academic credential evaluation report issued by the agency and any supporting documentation provided by the applicant to the agency.
d) an applicant who has received a recognition of equivalency certificate or a letter of equivalency certificate issued by the Association of Early Childhood Educators Ontario (AECEO) or the Association francophone à l'éducation des services à l'enfance de l'Ontario (AFÉSEO) must provide to the College an original letter on letterhead of AECEO or AFÉSEO, signed by a senior official of the AECEO or AFÉSEO. The letter must confirm the issuance of a recognition of equivalency certificate or letter of equivalency certificate to the applicant, the date on which the applicant applied to AECEO or AFÉSEO for the certificate and the date on which the certificate was issued.
2. Effective February 14, 2011, the College will no longer accept a guaranteed photocopy of a document as evidence of an applicant's educational qualifications.

Eligibility and Registration
You have to apply for membership in the College and be registered if you wish to use the title of “early childhood educator” (ECE) or “registered early childhood educator” (RECE).
No person except a member of the College shall use the English title “early childhood educator” or “registered early childhood educator” or the French title “éducatrice de la petite enfance”, “éducateur de la petite enfance”, “éducatrice de la petite enfance inscrite” or “éducateur de la petite enfance inscrit” or an abbreviation of any of those titles to describe themselves or their profession. You have to apply for membership in the College and be registered if you wish to engage in the practice of early childhood education or hold yourself out as able to do so. There are certain persons (e.g., teachers and nannies) to whom this requirement will not apply. No person shall engage in the practice of early childhood education or hold himself or herself out as able to do so unless the person holds a certificate of registration issued under this Act.

Application and Registration Fees
Application Fee: $75.00
This is a one-time fee for the processing of your application and is non-refundable, regardless of the outcome of the application process.
Registration Fee: $150.00.
The registration fee is $150.00. This fee is for registration as a member. An annual fee of $150.00 is payable on the anniversary of the date your certificate of registration is issued.
